Robin Dunnigan: The EU has very clearly defined what step Georgia should take - the most important thing is national consensus, it is a priority for everyone to stand together and work together

The European Union has very clearly defined what step Georgia should take - the most important thing is the national consensus in Georgia, it is a priority for everyone to work together, - US Ambassador to Georgia Robin Dunnigan said.

According to her, the Parliament, Government, civil society, opposition parties should all play a role in national unity.

"I was very happy when Georgia received the candidate status, and the USA wants to see Georgia as a member of the European Union. It supports Georgia's NATO aspirations, and one of the first things I did when I came to Georgia as an ambassador was to go to Brussels and talk to the European Union about Georgia's candidate status.

The European Union has defined very clearly what step Georgia should take - this is a big work. Resources are needed for this, and the most important thing is the national consensus in Georgia. It is a priority for everyone to stand together and work together. This means that the Parliament, Government, civil society, opposition parties, all have a role to play in this national unity. This is the moment, the EU has shown its energy towards the enlargement process", said the Ambassador.

At the same time, Ambassador Dunnigan spoke about the readiness of the USA to support all the steps of Georgia, including its integration into NATO.

According to her, the USA has been cooperating with the Defense Forces of Georgia for decades in the direction of increasing interoperability.

"The USA is ready to support all the steps of Georgia, and this also applies to NATO integration. NATO is a military and political organization.

We have been cooperating with Georgia's Defense Forces for decades, in the direction of increasing Georgia's interoperability. Georgian and American soldiers have been trained together, they have appropriate weapons and this has been going on for decades, however, NATO is also a political alliance and steps are needed to implement these political steps, which are very close to the steps defined by the European Union", - Robin Dunigan said onRustavi2.
