Khatia Dekanoidze: No immunity, which the head of the anti-corruption bureau may have, can condition his independence - the changes presented by the Georgian government are a facade

No immunity, which the head of the anti-corruption bureau may have, can condition his independence - the changes presented by the Georgian government are a facade, EuroOptimists deputy Khatia Dekanoidze said while talking to journalists.

According to her, the independence of the anti-corruption bureau is determined by the head selected through a transparent competition and, at the same time, the addition of an investigative body to the bureau.

She also spoke about the NDI report and noted that Georgian Dream does not seem to have the political will to implement the recommendations written in the very harsh assessments.

"The first assessment of the international monitoring mission is negative. If the negative assessment of the pre-election environment continues like this, of course, it will have a great impact on the election day," Dekanoidze said.

In addition, she spoke about Russia's alleged influence and stated that Georgian Dream is a party openly supported by Russia.

"It is in the direct interest of Russia that Georgian Dream wins the elections. I believe that Russia has no other covert intervention attempts, the only thing Russia wants is for Bidzina Ivanishvili to remain in power. Therefore, it is clear that these are open pro-Russian interests in Georgia. Russia's and Putin's interest in Georgian elections is not the victory of the coalition of pro-Western forces. It is in their interest for oligarch Bidzina Ivanishvili to remain in power together with Georgian Dream," said Khatia Dekanoidze.
