Archil Talakvadze: The President vetoed the protection of the election system of Georgia from parties and political interference - from today Georgia will have the kind of election administration as the leading EU countries have

What the radical opposition demanded and what the President is demanding with a veto has no analogue in any of the developed countries of the European Union - starting today, Georgia will have the kind of election administration and legislation as the leading countries of the European Union have, - the Vice-Speaker of the Parliament, Archil Talakvadze, said about the amendments to the Electoral Code.

According to him, the President vetoed the protection of the election system of Georgia from parties and political interference.

"We will respond to the veto today, in the Parliament, but I want to tell the population what Mrs. Salome Zurabishvili vetoed - she vetoed the protection of the election system of Georgia from parties and political interference; she vetoed the elections that are not subject to political trading every 6 months and she vetoed the votes that do not become the subject of any manipulation. This was our goal, why we passed the law, so that the elections of Georgia will never become a subject of speculation in the future, and no one can boycott, sabotage, or cast a shadow on the democratic elections of our country. That's why we adopted this law", said Archil Talakvadze.

In addition, as Talakvadze noted, "the recommendations of the Venice Commission do not refer to the model that the opposition demands".

"The Venice Commission does not have such a recommendation, which is now being proposed by the radical opposition and which Salome Zurabishvili justifies in her veto. The Venice Commission told us to agree on a democratic model based on international experience. It is this agreement that the radical opposition undermines. They do not want to agree on what the whole of Europe has agreed on. It's okay, we will continue our work and Georgia will have the kind of election administration as in the European Union", said Archil Talakvadze.
