Nikoloz Samkharadze: Georgia is open to discussions with European partners and is also ready for proposals that European partners offer, which will bring this law into line with European directives

There is no similarity between these laws. On the contrary, Russian law has strict rules that criminalize individuals and close and cancel non-governmental organizations, deny people the right to participate in elections, and this is Russian law. I will now describe Russian law. Georgian law has only one requirement for non-governmental organizations that are financed from abroad, that they, once a year, declare the received and spent funds. That's all. There are no other demands, - this is how the chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Parliament of Georgia, Nikoloz Samkharadze, answered the journalist's question regarding the "Law on transparency of foreign influence" in an interview given to "BBC".

According to Samkharadze, Georgia is open to discussions with European partners and is also ready for the proposals offered by European partners, which will bring this law into compliance with European directives. He also noted that transparency from non-governmental organizations has nothing to do with the change in Georgia's foreign policy.

"Of course, we are very sad and worried that Russia attacked Ukraine. Of course, we condemn this attack, and in fact we were a party to the group of states that appealed to the International Criminal Court to investigate the crimes against humanity committed by Russia in Ukraine, but at the same time, we think that we demand transparency from non-governmental organizations, it has nothing to do with the change in Georgia's foreign policy. It is about having a complete picture and complete information for our society about how non-governmental organizations are funded and where they are funded from. Maybe they are financed from Russia, maybe they are financed from other countries, but we should know where they are financed from," said Nikoloz Samkharadze.
