Minister of Education: In 2026, we will probably be able to pilot national assessments at the basic and secondary levels

The national assessment is a necessary component for the school community, to measure how the school develops, to measure the teacher's results and, most importantly, the student's transition, whether it is in higher education or professional education, - said the Minister of Education Giorgi Amilakhvari during his speech at the plenary session of the Parliament within the framework of the "Minister's Hour" .

According to the Minister, the national exams are not in danger.

"With the support of our partners, we are actively working to implement a diagnostic, i.e., not a determinative and mandatory, but an evaluative assessment at the end of the primary and basic level, where we will see the stages of the student's development and evaluate the results achieved by the teacher and the student. It is in this regard we think that next year, we will begin some piloting at the elementary level, and in 2026, we will likely be able to pilot national assessments at the elementary and secondary levels.

I want to emphasize here that there is no threat to the national exams. This process is ongoing and will be built in parallel, and when we see that the system is ready for it - our students, teachers and school community will fully adapt to the so-called the national assessment, which will be much more telling and more effective than the current assessment, after a few years we will be able to discuss what form of transition we should have.

This process is ongoing and I don't want to create an expectation that something threatens the national exams", said Amilakhvari.
