Davit Asatiani was elected as the President of the European Bar Association

Davit Asatiani was elected as the President of the European Bar Association. The Association of Lawyers disseminates information about this.

According to their information, the elections for the chairman of the European Bar Association (AEA-EAL) were held on June 13.

According to Davit Asatiani, his election to the position of the President of the European Bar Association indicates the recognition of the independence of the Georgian legal profession, its development and compliance with European standards.

"I would like to thank my European colleagues for the trust they have shown me. My election to the position of the President of the European Bar Association is an honorable responsibility and it also indicates the recognition of the independence of the Georgian Bar Association, its development and compliance with European standards, as well as another clear support expressed to us. As the President of the European Bar Association, my main priority will remain unchanged, and this will be the strengthening of the legal profession across Europe and serve the purpose of further increasing international support for lawyers and bar associations of transitional democracies in order to further integrate the legal profession into their European family," said David Asatiani.

According to the information released by the Bar Association, this is the first precedent in the history of the professional associations of European lawyers, when the chairman of the organization became a representative of the bar of a non-EU country.

Davit Asatiani is currently holding the position of the chairman of the Georgian Bar Association for the second term by the decision of the general election meeting. Also, it should be noted that in 2021 he became the vice-president of the European Bar Association.

The European Bar Association (AEA-EAL) was founded in 1986 by European lawyers in Brussels. The organization brings together bar associations, law firms and individual lawyers across Europe. The activity of the association is aimed at supporting the lawyer profession in European countries, strengthening lawyers' associations and establishing the rule of law.
