Speaker of the Parliament Shalva Papuashvili met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, Ararat Mirzoyan.
At the meeting, the declaration on strategic partnership signed between Georgia and Armenia in January 2024 was noted as a logical continuation of the historical friendship between the two countries.
Shalva Papuashvili thanked the Armenian side for the initial support of the resolution submitted to the United Nations on internally displaced persons and refugees from the occupied territories of Georgia. The parties underlined the strong ties between the governments and legislative bodies of Georgia and Armenia. Also, the importance of parliamentary diplomacy for further deepening of cooperation between the two countries was noted.
Regional peace issues were also discussed at the meeting. Attention was drawn to the importance of signing the peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia to ensure peace and prosperity in the region.
Ararat Mirzoyan expressed gratitude for Georgia's readiness to promote regional peace.
The meeting was also attended by: First Deputy Speaker of the Parliament, Head of the Friendship Group with the Parliament of the Republic of Armenia Giorgi Volski, Chairman of the Committee on Procedural Issues and Rules Irakli Kadagishvili, Member of the Friendship Group with the Parliament of the Republic of Armenia Sumbat Kiuregiani and Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Georgia to the Republic of Armenia Giorgi Sharvashidze.
