Residents of Shukruti village are holding a rally near the parliament

Residents of Shukruti village of Chiatura are holding a demonstration in front of the Georgian Parliament building.

The participants of the rally demand compensation for the damage caused to the village of Shukruti as a result of the activities of "Georgian Manganese" and the involvement of the central government in this process.

The people of Shukruti say that as a result of the works carried out by "Georgian Manganese" their houses were destroyed, the soil, yards and plots were damaged and life in the village became unbearable.

"We are being harmed by the company and they are not paying attention to us. Houses are damaged, there is manganese dust and it is practically uninhabitable. No one cares about our plight. Pay attention to us, let the state get involved, we are citizens of this country. Disturb this company. This protest has been going on for months and years. The boys are starving for the 11th day. We are going to protect our ancestral land to the end. We are not going to give these places to someone in order to become a billionaire", said Beka Meparidze, a resident of Shukruti.

For information, part of the population of Shukruti village of Chiatura has been demanding compensation from the "Georgian Manganese" company for the 183rd day. Three participants of the rally sewed their mouths as a sign of protest.
