The intelligence service has a leading role in our national security system. Your efforts to protect Georgia from internal and external threats contribute to peace, security and well-being in our country, said Shalva Papuashvili, the Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, during his speech at the event dedicated to the Day of Georgian Intelligence Service employees.
As the Chairman of the Parliament noted, Georgia is in a difficult political situation in terms of security, and it is with the help of the Georgian Intelligence Service and other agencies that it is possible to clearly see the picture created in the region and the world and avoid conflicts.
"The intelligence service has a leading role in our national security system. In an ever-changing world with ever-increasing challenges, the importance of intelligence services is critical. Your efforts to protect Georgia from internal and external threats contribute to peace, security and prosperity in our country. Georgia is in a difficult political situation in terms of security. It is with the help of the Georgian Intelligence Service and other agencies that we are able to clearly see the picture created in the region and the world, to avoid spillover of conflicts to Georgia, to maintain peace and promote the irreversible development of the country.
In the conditions of significant geopolitical changes, each of you has an important mission. In the modern era, in the background of the sharp increase in the share of disinformation, the timely identification and correct assessment of key issues affecting the security environment of Georgia is gaining special importance, which requires effective and coordinated work of various intelligence disciplines. The complexity of modern security issues requires not only vigilance and high responsibility from you, but also innovative approaches, flexibility and enhanced adaptation skills. We see how you perform your duties with high professionalism, high degree of confidentiality, without public recognition and loyalty to the country. The intelligence capabilities of the country have been significantly increased in recent years. The service has a professional staff and has a modern infrastructure," said Shalva Papuashvili.
The Speaker of the Parliament also spoke about the close cooperation between the service and the Parliament and expressed the assumption that the existing practice with the Parliament of further invitations will continue effectively.
"I am particularly pleased with the service's close cooperation with the Parliament, including the Defense and Security Committee and the Trust Group. In the Parliament of the 10th convocation, hearings in the mentioned formats were held on a regular basis, the deputies were also in the intelligence service more than once. The Parliament was always informed about the trends of the security environment, as well as about the implemented or ongoing institutional reforms in the service. I am sure that the mentioned practice will continue with the same effectiveness with the parliament of the next convocation. The intelligence service has and will always have the support of the Parliament of Georgia. Our strength comes from our ability to work together to help ensure a secure and prosperous future for Georgia. We see and appreciate the loyalty, hard work, effort, and attitude of each of you. You are the guardians of our country's security and for that we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
Congratulations again on your professional day. I wish you further success in your most important and responsible work", said Shalva Papuashvili.
The event was also attended by Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze, Head of the Intelligence Service Irakli Beraia, Chairman of the Defense and Security Committee of the Parliament Alexander Tabatadze and Chairman of the Legal Affairs Committee Anri Okhanashvili.
