Giorgi Gakharia at the meeting with the President: there was no discussion about specific names and surnames - there may be a candidate that is acceptable even before the elections, there may be a candidate that is not acceptable before the elections

[At the meeting] there was no discussion of specific names and surnames - there may be a candidate that is acceptable even before the elections, there may be a candidate that is not acceptable before the elections. For me, the most important thing is to create an environment in the country when both the "Georgian Dream" and the "National Movement" fail, Giorgi Gakharia, chairman of the "Gakharia for Georgia" party, told reporters after meeting with President Salome Zurabishvili.

According to him, the President's promise that she is not going to pardon Mikheil Saakashvili is welcome, because a free Mikheil Saakashvili is an even more source of radicalization and a threat in this country.

"I want to emphasize that I am satisfied with this meeting. As you know, our political force has a very clear position - through the October elections, we must remove the "Georgian Dream" from the government so that the "National Movement" cannot return to power. This is a strategic line and a strategic goal for us. Accordingly, we will do so in cooperation with all whose positions coincide with ours. For us, for all citizens of Georgia, the main goal is to return the country to the European path. Returning to the European path today has two main obstacles: the authoritarian, anti-democratic "Georgian Dream" and the radical revanchist ideas of the "National Movement". One is damaging and the other is to return the country to the European path. That's why we say that if there is peace in the country, no radicalization, no confrontation, no tug-of-war on the second day of the elections, in order for there to be peace, together with the citizens of Georgia, we must make such a choice that neither one nor the other power has the opportunity to think about governing the country as a single party.

In the last month, this collapsed "Georgian Dream" already looks so weak that in the hotheads of the "National Movement" these revanchist ideas can be strengthened even more. Therefore, I call on the citizens of Georgia and tell them that we will cooperate with everyone, for whom any kind of revenge of the "National Movement" is categorically unacceptable, and the President agrees with us. I think that the so-called technical government is the solution, everything else is technical issues. The most important thing for me is that there is no government in Georgia that is controlled by the "Georgian Dream" and that there is no government in Georgia that is controlled by the "National Movement".

Along with the calls that are heard from the European Parliament, I well remember the President's promise that she will not pardon Mikheil Saakashvili in any context and under any scenario. I don't have a problem with Mikheil Saakashvili's genie, it's just that a free Mikheil Saakashvili is an even greater source of radicalization in this country and an even greater danger.

Battles for office are not our business. We see where the main line of struggle is, it runs through the protection of democratization and the return of the country to Europe. Therefore, there was no talk about specific names and surnames. The terms are not mentioned in the charter. We remain in this process in order to defeat and remove the "Georgian Dream" from the government so that the "National Movement" does not have a chance.

There may be a candidate that is acceptable even before the elections, there may be a candidate that is not acceptable before the elections. For me, the most important thing is to create an environment in the country when the "Georgian Dream" fails and the "National Movement" also fails. I am ready for all kinds of cooperation with the Georgian people, the citizens of Georgia, and among them, the president, because I know that he also shares our position", said Giorgi Gakharia.
