Bidzina Ivanishvili: A constitutional majority will ensure peace and justice for Georgia

Bidzina Ivanishvili, honorary chairman of Georgian Dream, emphasized that the upcoming elections are a referendum on peace, traditional values, and national sovereignty. He vowed that once Georgian Dream achieves a constitutional majority, they will ban the National Movement and its affiliated parties, holding them accountable for crimes against the people, including war crimes.

Speaking at a regional event in Kutaisi, Ivanishvili declared that the October 26 elections are as pivotal as the 2012 elections that brought Georgian Dream to power. He framed the election as a decisive moment for Georgia’s future, where the country must choose peace over war, family values over what he described as pseudo-liberal ideologies, and sovereignty over external control. He stressed that a constitutional majority would be necessary to guarantee long-term peace and prevent any attempts by the opposition to return to power through revolutions or coups, which, he warned, could drag Georgia into war.

"The October 26 elections are a kind of referendum... The population of Georgia unanimously chooses not war, but peace; not pseudo-liberal, self-absorbed values, but family values, beliefs, and traditions; not unconditional obedience to other countries, but sovereignty and independence," said Ivanishvili.

Ivanishvili also made it clear that Georgian Dream would not tolerate the return of the National Movement to power. He accused the party, along with its foreign backers, of attempting to destabilize Georgia and warned that their ambitions could lead the country into conflict. To counter this, he emphasized the need for the Georgian Dream to gain a constitutional majority in order to secure long-term peace and stability.

He went further, stating that once the constitutional majority is achieved, Georgian Dream would move to ban the National Movement and its successor parties through legal means. He vowed to hold them accountable for crimes committed against the Georgian people, including war crimes, under the full force of the law.

"After obtaining the constitutional majority, we will ban the 'National Movement' and its satellite or successor parties and make them answer with the full severity of the law for the crimes committed against their own people, including war crimes."

Ivanishvili’s speech also emphasized that Georgian Dream's legitimacy, backed by the Georgian people, would effectively stop any revolutionary plans by the opposition and their foreign supporters. He framed Georgian Dream as the only party capable of maintaining peace and protecting the nation from external influence and internal turmoil. He expressed confidence that Georgian Dream would emerge victorious in the elections, ensuring a secure and peaceful future for Georgia.

"Legitimation of this degree granted by the society will actually nip in the bud the plans of the collective 'National Movement' and their foreign patrons with the aim of returning power through a revolution and coup, and then involving Georgia in the war!"
