Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze criticized the opposition for failing to fill Freedom Square during the "Georgia Chooses the European Union" march, accusing them of using old footage, including clips from Georgian Dream rallies, to cover up the low turnout.
Kobakhidze stated that the opposition "lost the election" even before it began, claiming they couldn't gather enough supporters. He described the situation as evidence of the opposition's declining influence and inability to engage with the public.
"The opposition is in the worst situation. They don’t conduct campaigns; they can’t hold meetings. Yesterday, they brought Salome Zurabishvili and still couldn’t fill Freedom Square."
Kobakhidze responded to claims that footage from the rally showed large crowds by accusing the media of using old footage from previous rallies, including Georgian Dream's own events, to exaggerate attendance numbers.
"In order to cover up this failure, footage of old actions was distributed, including our own. You couldn't fill Freedom Square, the rally failed. And in fact, the radical opposition lost the elections a week earlier."
Kobakhidze also warned of potential provocations during the elections but assured the public that the state would be vigilant to prevent any disruptions.
"The state is vigilant, and we will do everything to ensure that no provocation occurs."
