Statement from Georgia’s Technology and Startup Ecosystem Representatives

We unequivocally distance ourselves from and strongly condemn the recent actions of the "Georgian Dream" government: halting EU membership negotiations and using violence against peaceful protesters.

As members of Georgia’s technology and startup community, we find these actions unacceptable. They represent a blatant violation of Georgia's national interests, the will of its people, and the Georgian constitution.

The technology sector is a vital driver of Georgia’s rapid and sustainable development. Our Western partners and international institutions have played a crucial role in supporting this sector, contributing significantly not only to technological advancement but also to progress in education, healthcare, and the strengthening of democracy.

We are at a decisive moment in Georgia's modern history, one that will determine our long-term stability and prosperity. The European Union has been and continues to be, a strong supporter of the private sector in Georgia. EU-backed projects, grants, and investments have been pivotal in developing our tech and startup ecosystem. Our achievements would not have been possible without this support.

Halting negotiations with the EU poses a direct threat to the continued growth of Georgia’s most dynamic and progressive industry. This decision distances us from European markets, discourages foreign investment, and undermines Georgia’s technological potential.

We cannot allow this to happen. The actions of the "Georgian Dream" government are directly against the democratic and pro-European values that serve as the foundation of our society.

We strongly condemn the violence against peaceful protesters and the excessive, disproportionate use of force by the so-called police.

We call on those responsible to respect the European aspirations of the Georgian people. We urge an immediate return to democratic principles, an end to violence against citizens, a reduction in societal polarization, and governance that aligns with the will of the Georgian people and the Georgian constitution.

Georgia, with its rich culture and enduring aspirations, is a European nation. Its rightful place is within the European Union.
