Zurab Japaridze: the road was blocked, several people arrested us - in the end, I was issued with an administrative offense protocol

Zurab Girchi Japaridze, one of the leaders of "Coalition for Change", explains the circumstances under which he was arrested this morning, at the rally, and states that he was released on the basis of an administrative offense protocol.

According to him, after the arrest, he was taken to the Central Criminal Police Department, where he was interrogated.

"The road was blocked. We arrested several people, I don't know exactly how many. Many policemen chased many people and I don't know how many they managed to catch. We were transferred to Ortachala, I think it's called the Central Department of Criminal Police. I spent about 4 hours there. The question was - what were you doing, when did you start participating in the protest, etc. There were standard questions, nothing like that, and in the end, they signed an administrative violation protocol," Zurab Japaridze said.

In addition, Japaridze thinks that the purpose of arresting active people during demonstrations is to kill their motivation to continue the protest.

"As a rule, those who actively participate in the protest are arrested. Their arrest, temporary separation from the protest zone, fines imposed on them, days spent in "capeze" - this kills the motivation of active people to continue the protest. But so far, practice shows that this protest has been going on continuously for 4 days, and citizens come out and stand up every day not only in Tbilisi, but in the whole country", said Zurab Japaridze.

For information, one of the leaders of "Coalition for Change", Zurab Girchi Japaridze, was arrested today, early in the morning, during the rally on Chavchavadze Avenue, and was released a few hours later. The arrest was preceded by a confrontation between police forces and protesters.
