According to the draft of amendments to the Law "On Police", the Minister of Internal Affairs is empowered to hire a person to work in the police force without passing a special competition, and to determine the manner and conditions of hiring by his own order

The Minister of Internal Affairs is empowered to hire a person to work in the police force without a special competition and to determine the rules and conditions for hiring a person in the police force without a competition by his own order. This is provided for by the draft of the planned amendments to the Law "On Police", which has already been initiated in the Parliament. It should be noted that the project is submitted within the framework of the package of legislative changes, which refers to the regulations related to the import and sale of pyrotechnics.

It is written in the still valid Law "On the Police" that a person must be accepted to work in the police as a result of passing a special competition. According to the project, as a rule, a person should be accepted to work in the police after passing a special competition. The rules and conditions of admission to the police force without passing a special competition are determined by the order of the minister.

According to the project, the law will come into effect on January 1, 2025.

"From January 1, 2025, military service will exist only in the Ministry of Defense. Accordingly, taking into account the specifics of the activity of paramilitary units, it is necessary to modify certain rules for accepting service in the police and to establish different rules for accepting positions in the police, taking into account their specifics", - we read in the explanatory note of the draft law.

The authors and initiators of the project are the representatives of "Georgian Dream": - Rati Ionatamishvili, Aleksandre Tabatadze, Tengiz Sharmanashvili, Nino Tsilosani, Aluda Ghudushauri, Irakli Shatakishvili and Guram Macharashvili.
