French President Emmanuel Macron expresses concern over the "disturbing statements" and "betrayal of the European path" by the head of the Georgian government. According to Macron, this is the complete opposite of what voters were told during the campaign.
At a joint press conference with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, Emmanuel Macron reiterated his support for the defenders of democracy and the European path in Georgia.
"It is clear that Russia is increasing its information attacks and influence on elections almost everywhere in Europe. Moldova has been attacked and I welcome the re-election of President Maia Sandu. Fortunately, we have deployed cybersecurity tools to help combat disinformation, but we need to step up our efforts with these countries.
It is very clear that Georgia has become the victim of a very clear manipulative attack and I want to reiterate our full support for the defenders of democracy and the European path in Georgia and express our great concern over the very harsh repression against the youth, the disturbing statements of the head of government and the betrayal of the European path after the elections. Which is the complete opposite of what voters were told during the campaign," Macron said.
