"The billionaire oligarch is having problems with his banks—let him resolve them through his lawyers! He has turned the country into a hostage to his financial issues ever since he convinced himself that 'Credit Suisse' was part of some grand conspiracy," stated Tina Khidasheli, head of Civil Idea, in response to the statement made by Bidzina Ivanishvili's lawyer, which indicated that Ivanishvili plans to sue another Swiss bank, Julius Baer.
Khidasheli described the entire process as deeply unserious.
"The more Bidzina Ivanishvili believes that he is being politically persecuted, the more that’s his problem. Initially, he had issues with one bank, then with another. Regarding the first bank, it turned out to be a simple criminal scheme, in which Ivanishvili himself became involved. I regret saying it, but that’s the reality. He became convinced by the conspiracy theories he had internalized—that the entire world, represented by 'Credit Suisse,' was fighting against him, and he was at the center of it all. This is the same type of rhetoric we saw in Irakli Kobakhidze’s letter about the British government, claiming that sanctions against Georgia would bring down the UK government. I cannot take such nonsense seriously.
This entire process is deeply unserious. A billionaire oligarch is dealing with problems with his banks—let him resolve them through legal means! He has made the country a hostage to his financial problems ever since he convinced himself that 'Credit Suisse' was part of some grand conspiracy. The Georgian public must not allow him to do this!" Khidasheli emphasized.
Additionally, in her remarks to journalists, Khidasheli discussed the relationship between Georgia and the United States under the new U.S. administration. She expressed optimism that the ongoing crisis in Georgia would come to an end.
"President Trump says strengthening defense capabilities and security is his priority. I am hopeful that the political crisis in Georgia will be resolved, that Georgia will move past the dilemmas of sanctions and suspended programs, and that there will be an opportunity to advance military cooperation to a qualitatively better and broader level.
Today, the main question should be what Irakli Kobakhidze and Georgian Dream plan to do regarding the issue President Trump announced yesterday: 'Friendship with America’s enemies will be punished.' This comes as global media reports show Irakli Kobakhidze standing alongside leaders of Iran, Hamas, and Hezbollah," Khidasheli stated.
