The collective "National Movement" claims not to recognize the legitimacy of parliament, yet they have no problem accepting salaries and funding from it. They want to receive money but refuse to fulfill their obligations, said Guram Macharashvili, a member of the "People's Power" faction, in a statement to journalists.
According to him, this behavior reflects the true nature of the "National Movement" – double, triple, and even quadruple standards, which, he says, will inevitably come to an end.
"We are used to the double and triple standards of the collective 'National Movement.' They claim not to recognize the legitimacy of parliament, yet they gladly take money from it. They also request various funding and decision-making from parliament. At the same time, 'Lelo' has its representative in the Central Election Commission (CEC). If you don’t recognize the legitimacy of the CEC or parliament, why did you send your representative there?
The same applies to declarations – they want to receive salaries and funding but refuse to fulfill their obligations. This is their real face – double, triple, and quadruple standards, which will inevitably come to an end," Macharashvili stated.
As for the statement by "For Strong Georgia" regarding the disclosure of Georgian Dream's declarations, Macharashvili described it as a "Bolshevik approach" because, according to him, they demand rights for themselves while expecting obligations only from others.
"This is exactly the point – when you don’t submit your own declarations but criticize the Anti-Corruption Bureau for not publicly disclosing the declarations of the majority’s members, it shows their attitude. They want rights for themselves and obligations for everyone else. This is a Bolshevik approach. Sorry, my friends, but those times are over," Macharashvili said.
For context, members of the "United National Movement" have stated that they do not intend to submit property declarations.
As party member Gia Japaridze explained during a briefing, the Anti-Corruption Bureau is requesting property declarations from members of the "National Movement" as members of parliament.
He stated that the National Movement does not recognize the legitimacy of parliament, they are not MPs, and therefore, submitting declarations would be unreasonable.
Additionally, "For Strong Georgia" member Irakli Kupradze accused the Anti-Corruption Bureau of concealing property declarations of high-ranking officials to hide the process of "black money acquisition" by Georgian Dream, as well as unprecedented levels of wealth accumulation by officials. He added that coalition members elected through party lists will submit property declarations despite demanding the termination of their mandates.
