Salome Samadashvili: It is a very difficult day in the history of our country - for the first time, the issue of denying the recognition of the Georgian delegation's mandate has arisen

It is a very difficult day in the history of our country - for the first time, the issue of denying the recognition of the Georgian delegation's mandate has arisen, as one of the leaders of "Strong Georgia," Salome Samadashvili, told "Interpressnews" in Strasbourg.

Salome Samadashvili stated that opposition representatives held several meetings where they discussed the objective reality in Georgia, including the issue of political prisoners.

"26 years ago, on this very day, Georgia joined the Council of Europe, and Zurab Zhvania said his famous words: 'I am Georgian, and therefore European.' After 26 years, for the first time, the issue of denying the recognition of the Georgian delegation's mandate has arisen. This is a significant achievement for Russia. The reality is that the Georgian government's attempt to distance Georgia from the European space is becoming increasingly real.

We have had many meetings here in the past few days, and we have explained the completely objective situation at every meeting. It is very important for everyone to understand the challenges that the Georgian people are facing today. We also talked about cases such as the imprisonment of Mzia Amaglobeli, her hunger strike, which is already very dangerous for her health and life. We also discussed other political prisoners and the fact that the democratic space in Georgia is gradually disappearing," Salome Samadashvili said.

It should be noted that today, the issue of recognizing the Georgian parliamentary delegation's mandate was challenged at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE). The issue was raised by Swedish MP Boriana Oberg.

"The Georgian Parliament is a one-party parliament – only 'Georgian Dream.' The Ivanishvili regime is destroying democratic order in Georgia. That is why, on behalf of the European People's Party, I call for their mandate to be revoked," Boriana Oberg said.

The Monitoring and Procedural Committees will discuss this issue. They must present their opinion within 24 hours, after which the issue will be put to a vote.

It will be determined during the session from January 27 to 31 whether the Assembly will recognize the Georgian delegation's mandate.
