New Theatre starts protest manifesto today from Batumi

The protest manifesto of the Vaso Abashidze New Theatre begins its journey to the regions today from Batumi.

The theater’s actors and directors have already left for Adjara. Before that, they gathered near the New Theatre building, with family members and supporters.

As the artistic director of the New Theatre Davit Doiashvili stated, locals will read the manifesto in Batumi and talk about the problems of the region.

“The main message of this manifesto is solidarity - solidarity towards each other. The main reason we are going is to listen to them. The manifestos will be read not by us, but by locals. We are also interested in what they will say to us. There will be interesting people from Batumi who have something to say and will talk about the problems of Batumi and Adjara in general,” Doiashvili stated.

The protest manifesto will arrive in Samegrelo tomorrow, February 2.

For information, the New Theatre protest manifesto was announced on January 23. As the artistic director of the New Theatre Davit Doiashvili stated during the protest manifesto of the actors and directors, they did everything to have a dialogue with the prosecutor’s office, however, according to him, “the prosecutor’s office did not notice this.”

Representatives of the art sphere are protesting the events that have developed in the country over the past two months and demand the release of illegally detained individuals, including New Theatre actor Andro Chichinadze.
