GYLA: As a result of reviewing Mzia Amaglobeli’s medical documents, it is clear that Mzia Amaglobeli is not provided with all the necessary procedures

Mzia Amaglobeli must be provided appropriate medical examinations immediately - as a result of reviewing the medical documents, it is clear that Mzia Amaglobeli is not provided with all the necessary procedures, - the Young Lawyers' Association has released a statement on this.

As stated in the statement, all the necessary procedures must be checked in order to prevent the deterioration of Mzia Amaglobeli's health and irreversible processes damaging her health.

"Mzia Amaglobeli has been on a full hunger strike for 21 days. During the hunger strike, the state has a responsibility to pay special attention to the prisoner's health condition and respond promptly in case of any complications. Accordingly, Mzia Amaglobeli must be under constant medical examination. The lawyers' request to receive timely information about the treatment performed was met with delay, and only on January 31, we were provided with complete medical documentation. The submitted medical documentation reflects the data on the medical procedures/examinations performed on Mzia Amaglobeli in the penitentiary institution. As a result of reviewing the medical documents, it becomes clear that Mzia Amaglobeli is not provided with all the necessary procedures that, given her medical history, the results of the examinations, and the long period of complete starvation, must be provided in order to prevent the deterioration of Mzia Amaglobeli's health and irreversible processes damaging her health.

Taking this into account, relevant correspondence was sent today to the Director General of the Special Penitentiary Service and the Director of the Women's Special Institution of the Special Penitentiary Service. The statement details the medical examinations and analyzes that should be immediately performed for Mzia Amaglobeli. The statement was also sent to the Public Defender, so that he can monitor the process of conducting the necessary medical examinations within the framework of his mandate.

The statement also states that in the event that the penitentiary facility does not have the appropriate medical infrastructure, all appropriate measures should be taken to avoid delayed or incomplete treatment,” the reads GYLA statement.
