Teona Akubardia, one of the leaders of the For Georgia party, advises the government that if they intend to prosecute anyone, they should start with Georgian Dream's honorary chairman, Bidzina Ivanishvili.
As Akubardia told journalists regarding the establishment of an investigative commission, the director of the Special Tasks Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Zviad Kharashvili, also known as Kharaba, should also be prosecuted.
"Ivanishvili, who stood alongside Mikheil Saakashvili during the violations of November 7 and afterward, and who even took in all the most controversial figures from the United National Movement into his party, should begin by prosecuting himself if he truly intends to hold someone accountable. After that, he should address those figures from the United National Movement who actively worked against fundamental rights during the bloody regime.
I also call on him—if he has any intention of upholding justice—to stop fighting against the country and its people, against the rule of law and democracy, which he has undermined along with those he brought over from the United National Movement," Akubardia stated.
According to her, discussing the prosecution of the previous government after 12 years in power only proves that the authorities have no ability to offer anything beneficial to the people and are merely trying to create false illusions.
"In this situation, let’s not forget Kharaba, who was standing right there when two corpses were demanded. They should start by prosecuting Kharaba and Bidzina Ivanishvili, who strengthened the very regime that he later adapted for himself and that now openly opposes the declared interests of its own people," Akubardia added.
As a reminder, Georgian Dream has announced that as soon as the spring session opens, the issue of establishing a temporary investigative commission will be put on the parliamentary agenda, with the goal of investigating crimes committed during the United National Movement's time in power.
