Tina Bokuchava: Ivanishvili will not be able to suppress critical opinion - the "media law" will be repealed under the conditions of the future democratic government

The so-called legislative amendments announced by the Georgian Dream will have no validity or legitimacy - Georgian citizens, Georgian media, independent channels and political forces will be much more resilient, stronger, resistant and capable of fighting than Ivanishvili ever imagined, - said the leader of the Unity - National Movement, Tina Bokuchava, in connection with the "media law" announced by the Georgian Dream.

According to her, the mentioned amendments will be repealed under the conditions of the future democratic government.

"The so-called legislative amendments announced by the Georgian Dream will have no validity or legitimacy. These amendments are being adopted by an illegitimate parliament, therefore, under the conditions of the future democratic government these amendments will be repealed. This is not the first time Ivanishvili has attacked independent media - we remember the supposedly private dispute over Rustavi 2, which aimed to turn this channel into a government propaganda channel. Now Ivanishvili is trying to suppress critical opinion in Georgia through legislation, and he will not be able to do this. Georgian citizens, Georgian media, independent channels and political forces will be much more resilient, stronger, resistant and capable of fighting than Ivanishvili ever imagined,” said Tina Bokuchava.

She also responded to the case of Mzia Amaglobeli, the founder of Netgazeti and Batumelebi, who has been on a hunger strike for the 27th day.

According to Bokuchava, Mzia Amaglobeli exposed Bidzina Ivanishvili’s Russian face and dictatorship with her free speech and courage.

“Mzia Amaglobeli has truly shown us an example of heroism, how one woman, a journalist, can, with free speech and such courage, expose the Russian face of Ivanishvili’s regime as a dictatorship that fights against righteous people fighting for freedom. I join the consolidated demand of the entire society for the release of Mzia Amaglobeli, who I am sure will be released soon and will always proudly say that she played a huge role in saving the European future of our country,” said Tina Bokuchava.

For information, Mzia Amaglobeli was arrested for slapping Batumi Police Chief Irakli Dgebuadze. She is charged with assaulting a police officer, which carries a sentence of 4 to 7 years in prison.

Mzia Amaglobeli has been on a hunger strike since her arrest. Today is the 27th day of her hunger strike. Amaglobeli is currently being treated at the Vivamedi clinic.

Michał Kobosko - we hope that your government eventually would either choose the European way, the democratic way or would resign seeing the number, the size and scale of the citizens' protests
