Shalva Papuashvili: It’s good that Mzia Amaghlobeli has ended her hunger strike – those who swore friendship to her were trying to use her as a tool, not only Georgians but also some foreigners

"It’s good that Mzia Amaghlobeli has ended her hunger strike – those who swore friendship to her were, in reality, trying to use her as a tool, not only Georgians but also some foreigners," said the Speaker of the Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, when commenting on Mzia Amaghlobeli, the founder of "Batumelebi" and "Netgazeti," ending her hunger strike.

Papuashvili criticized the ambassadors, including the European Union's ambassador, in relation to Amaghlobeli, saying that instead of encouraging Amaghlobeli to end her hunger strike, they incited her to continue damaging her health.

"First of all, it is welcome that she has ended her hunger strike. These days once again showed what we saw at another time, during Mikheil Saakashvili’s hunger strike – others use this as a weapon. I am shocked by the statements of the European Union's ambassador during these days, yesterday there was also a statement, which was directly an incitement for a person to continue damaging their own health. When a representative of the European Union in Georgia does this, it shows their personal detachment from not only European but even basic human values. Instead of encouraging Mzia Amaghlobeli to end her hunger strike, we saw an incitement to continue damaging her health. This is shocking, and it was the same during Saakashvili's time – we couldn’t get a single ambassador to tell him to stop damaging his health. Here, it is clear that for some people, she was just an instrument. If you remember, Mrs. Salome even accidentally said that Mzia Amaghlobeli was a good weapon in her hands, and it seems that for some foreigners, she was that weapon as well. It’s good that she stopped her hunger strike. As we said during Saakashvili's hunger strike, I want to say now that, first and foremost, the penitentiary institution, the medical facility where she was, and the state, in general, are the first supporters of her personally, of her health, and it is good that she stopped the hunger strike. At the same time, she will probably have the opportunity to analyze that the people who swore friendship to her were actually trying to use her as a tool, not only Georgians but also some foreigners. This shows that these foreigners, who made many statements encouraging her to continue damaging her own health, have no good intentions regarding Georgia," Shalva Papuashvili stated.
