Salome Samadashvili: It will be inevitable for the West to continue the process of sanctioning Bidzina Ivanishvili as a Russian ally

Bidzina Ivanishvili has been preparing for sanctions for a long time—the only discussion in the West today is how to increase pressure on him and his regime, including through the imposition of sanctions, said Salome Samadashvili, one of the leaders of the "Strong Georgia" coalition, in response to the possible sanctions that the United Kingdom may impose on Bidzina Ivanishvili.

According to Salome Samadashvili, financial sanctions imposed by the United Kingdom on Bidzina Ivanishvili would be highly significant since a large portion of his financial assets is concentrated in offshore zones.

"Bidzina Ivanishvili has been preparing for sanctions for a long time. He knows that the continuation of the process of sanctioning him as a Russian ally by the West is inevitable.

The United States has sanctioned him precisely for this reason—because he serves the interests of Russia and Putin’s regime. I am convinced that the continuation of this process in Europe and the United Kingdom will be damaging for him, as he has mobilized a large number of assets in offshore zones.

The UK sanctioning Bidzina Ivanishvili will simplify the process for EU member states to impose individual financial sanctions against him. No one intends to reset relations with the regime of a Russian oligarch," said Salome Samadashvili.
