Sentencing a person to 4 years and 6 months in prison for illegally crossing the border, and adding even more is truly unprecedented - this is a legal absurdity and a politically fabricated case, - Petre Tsiskarishvili, one of the leaders of the United National Movement, said in response to the sentence delivered against the third president of Georgia.
According to him, the Georgian Dream is afraid of Mikheil Saakashvili and is doing everything to keep him in prison.
"The case of Mikheil Saakashvili is a unique "case". Bidzina Ivanishvili and this regime are fighting him personally, because they do not want to see him free, they are afraid of him as their main political opponent and are doing everything possible to keep Misha Saakashvili in prison and isolated. There are immigration detention centers, they hold a person for 2-3 weeks and then either deport them, or make an appropriate decision. To sentence him to 4 years and 6 months and to add even more is truly unprecedented. This is a legal absurdity and a politically fabricated case," Tsiskarishvili said.
The court found the third president of Georgia, Mikheil Saakashvili, guilty of illegally crossing the state border. By the decision of Tbilisi City Court Judge Mikheil Jinjolia, Saakashvili was sentenced to 4 years and 6 months in prison. However, he was also sentenced to 8 years for embezzlement of budget funds, and in total, he was sentenced to 12 years and 6 months in prison.
