Kakha Kaladze: Rehabilitation of Rustaveli Avenue will begin next year, as studies have shown that much more time than planned is needed to repair communications

Rehabilitation works on Rustaveli Avenue will begin next year, as much more time than planned is needed to restore communications, Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze said.
"As for Rustaveli Avenue, we have news that we have conducted certain studies and that quite large-scale underground works will be carried out. There is a collector underground, which is in a very deplorable state. Imagine, there is neither a drainage system, nor a water system, nor a sewage system on the central avenue. Everything that flows causes problems for certain buildings. Accordingly, its dismantling is related to time and deadlines. We assumed that the rehabilitation works would take three months and were going to start at the end of May, however, at this stage we will have to postpone the works until next year, because more time is needed to put communications in order. Rustaveli Avenue is a central avenue and its long-term closure will cause many problems and discomfort in the capital. Therefore, the works will be postponed until next year," Kakha Kaladze said.
Kakha Kaladze had previously stated that the rehabilitation of Rustaveli Avenue would likely begin in May of this year.
