"I have never heard such nonsense, neither from the president nor from any other member of the administration," said former Foreign Minister Grigol Vashadze in response to a question from Tea Tsulukiani, the chair of the temporary investigative commission studying the activities of the government of the "National Movement."
The question referred to a statement made by the third president, Mikheil Saakashvili, regarding the occupied Tskhinvali.
Tsulukiani, when asking the question, noted that, according to Vashadze’s experience, "it seems that the president was involved in everything."
"Before you came in, we listened to Mikhail Kareli, the president's state representative in Shida Kartli from 2004-2007. He said that Saakashvili, during meetings in his office, mentioned that an agreement had been made with two major countries to regain Tskhinvali by force. He quoted Saakashvili saying, 'The Americans will handle the Russians.' I would like to remind everyone that Saakashvili was also the commander-in-chief at that time. You said before the Davitaia commission that you were involved in everything, even though you were deputy minister at the time. You had been a deputy minister before, and based on your experience, it seems you were involved in everything related to the president. Has he ever said anything similar to you, and what does he mean when he says the Americans will handle the Russians? Does it mean that I will take my army and go into Tskhinvali?" Tsulukiani asked.
In response to this question, Grigol Vashadze stated that he "refrains from using the words he wants to."
"I respect this commission, so I will not use the words I wish to use. I have never heard such nonsense from either the president or any other member of the administration," Grigol Vashadze concluded.
