Giorgi Baramidze to the government: The 'United National Movement' is an idea, not just some document- No matter how many circles you draw around it, you will not destroy it! Do not think that insulting the people and betraying Georgia's national interests will go unpunished

"The United National Movement is not a legal document that can be easily destroyed.

The United National Movement is the people united around the most precious idea—a united, strong, Georgian, and therefore European state," said Giorgi Baramidze, the political secretary of "Unity - United National Movement," in response to the ruling Georgian Dream party’s announcement about declaring the successor parties of the "collective National Movement" unconstitutional.

According to him, Georgian Dream should not think that betraying Georgia’s national interests will go unpunished.

"I want to briefly respond to the commission created by the illegitimate parliament, whose goal is to destroy the United National Movement. I want to tell this treacherous regime that the National Movement is not a legal document. The National Movement is the people united around the most valuable idea—a united, strong, Georgian, and therefore European state. This means membership in the EU and NATO. The National Movement is an idea, not just a document. So no matter how many circles you draw around it, you will not destroy this party, just as you cannot destroy the Georgian people and the idea that is supreme to them—the idea of freedom, a strong, united, democratic, and European state.

Do not think that the world is too busy to notice us. Yes, there is a war in Ukraine, the new U.S. administration is shaping its policy towards different regions, and the EU is preparing more aid for Ukraine. But do not assume that no one has time for Georgia and Ivanishvili. That is not the case. Even before the new government in Germany fully took office, we saw how it sanctioned this Russian regime. Now, the 'MEGOBARI Act' is under discussion in the U.S. Congress. So, these people should not believe that their insults toward the Georgian people and their betrayal of Georgia’s national interests will go unpunished. The crimes they commit against ordinary Georgian citizens will have consequences, and they will be held accountable for all of them," said Giorgi Baramidze.

For reference, Georgian Dream's executive secretary and majority leader, Mamuka Mdinaradze, announced that based on the findings of the parliamentary investigative commission, the party plans to appeal to Georgia's Constitutional Court to declare the United National Movement and its "satellite" parties unconstitutional. Additionally, Mdinaradze stated that the investigative commission examining the actions of the former UNM government will expand its mandate to include the period after 2012. Furthermore, he mentioned that legislative measures will be introduced to prevent the United National Movement and its allied parties from participating in local elections.
