The coalition Strong Georgia has filed a lawsuit against the Central Election Commission (CEC).
As lawyer Tornike Artkmeladze told journalists, the CEC's resolution on “defining the procedures and conditions for conducting voting using electronic means” is completely illegal and contradicts the Election Code.
“Two days ago, the CEC adopted an illegal resolution which prohibits observers from monitoring the verification devices and taking photo or video footage. Observers will also no longer be allowed to check voters' ID cards at polling stations. This confirms what we’ve been saying for a long time – how the October 26, 2024, election was rigged. Georgian Dream used personal ID numbers of Georgian citizens residing abroad. The CEC’s resolution is entirely unlawful and contradicts the Election Code, which is why we have turned to the court today,” said Tornike Artkmeladze.
To remind, under the CEC’s new resolution, several restrictions were introduced for individuals authorized to be present inside polling stations on election day. One notable change is that observers will no longer be allowed to request voters’ ID documents inside polling stations.
Additionally, it is now prohibited to photograph or otherwise process: a voter’s ID document, information displayed on the voter verification device, the receipt printed from the device confirming the voter’s verification, and the voter’s marked ballot.
