This is the first time I hear this. No early parliamentary elections are planned! - This is how Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze responded to a journalist's question regarding the statement made by Georgian Dream member Kakha Kakhishvili on PalitraNews TV.
In addition, as Kaladze noted, Georgian Dream is preparing for local self-government elections, while parliamentary elections will be held in 2028.
"This is the first time I hear this. No early parliamentary elections are planned. Georgian Dream - Democratic Georgia is preparing for local self-government elections, which is very important. We will do everything we can to conduct a decent election campaign, meet with the population throughout the country, not to leave out any city, district, village, even go to the precinct level and tell the people what we are going to do, how we are going to respond to the challenges that are facing us today and need to be resolved. Accordingly, no special elections are planned, parliamentary elections will be held in 2028 as stipulated by the Constitution and law.
As for Irakli Gharibashvili’s transition to the opposition, I do not know why this statement was made. It will be difficult for me to answer this. As for the opposition field, in general, there are very great opportunities. There is already a large platform and the opportunity for new political parties to emerge. The opposition does not actually exist in the country, there is a radical grouping that is marginalized and only poses a problem for itself, as well as for the country and its development.
We are ordinary soldiers, we serve our country and we do a job that, first of all, will benefit our homeland and the future of this country,” said Kakha Kaladze.
For information, Kakha Kakhishvili, noted that early elections might be called in 2026. In addition, according to him, Bidzina Ivanishvili may create a “real opposition” and give Tornike Rizhvadze, Grigol Liluashvili and those people, who were affected by the personnel changes, an opportunity to demonstrate their capabilities. In the same context, Kakhishvili also mentioned Irakli Gharibashvili, who, in his opinion, “will leave the Georgian Dream”.
