"Georgian Dream" constantly deceives the public, and in reality, their statements do not reflect the essence of the meetings – the goal of our friendship is for the country to overcome the enormous crisis it is facing with minimal harm to the Georgian people. In this regard, economic cooperation is an important aspect,” said Salome Samadashvili, a representative of “Lelo – For Strong Georgia,” responding to the meetings held during Georgia’s First Vice Prime Minister Levan Davitashvili’s visit to the United States.
According to her, the country is currently “facing a severe economic crisis.”
“‘Georgian Dream’ constantly lies to the public, and their statements don’t reflect the actual content of the meetings. We clearly saw this when Maka Bochorishvili told many lies to the public about the meeting with the Austrian Foreign Minister. We heard statements from the Austrian Foreign Minister that were completely inconsistent with what the Georgian side claimed.
Today, Georgia is facing, among other things, a severe economic crisis. Our friends’ goal is to help the country overcome this enormous crisis in a way that causes as little harm as possible to the Georgian people. In this respect, of course, cooperation in the economic sphere is a vital aspect. Despite Georgian Dream trying to convince the public otherwise, Georgia’s friends, partners, and supporters are in the West. They continue to work in certain directions, because the alternative would be a rapid increase in extreme poverty and the collapse of the economy. Therefore, economic cooperation is currently highly relevant – it shows that our Western friends are acting in the interest of the Georgian people.
We know that a very important process is underway in Washington today. In fact, for the first time in a decade, a well-structured policy is being shaped through the adoption of the “Friends of Georgia Act” in the U.S. legislature. I’m certain the American side had a lot to discuss regarding the expectations that exist today. In reality, in just a few months, Georgia–U.S. relations will face a new reality. I’m sure that the opinions of representatives of an illegitimate government – about how they plan to handle this new reality – are of great interest to our American friends,” Samadashvili stated.
For context, during his visit to the United States, Georgia’s First Vice Prime Minister Levan Davitashvili held his first official meeting at the U.S. Department of State, where he discussed the agenda of political and economic cooperation between the two countries with Deputy Assistant Secretary Joshua Huck. According to the agency, Davitashvili also met with Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Global Markets, Ashok Pinto, to discuss prospects for trade and economic cooperation between Georgia and the United States.
