Bidzina Ivanishvili, I am afraid, is facing even greater concern and disappointment from France – we have reliable information that the issue of sanctions against him is being discussed, said Tina Bokuchava, the chairperson of "Unity - National Movement," in a statement to journalists.
Regarding the information that the French Embassy has granted funds to an NGO whose members include former members of the "National Movement," Irakli Khvadagiani and Giorgi Kandelaki, Bokuchava stated that France has its own rules of transparency for any grants they issue, to "support and facilitate the development of democratic processes in the country."
"If Bidzina Ivanishvili is very concerned and disappointed by this, I am afraid that even greater concern and disappointment await him from France because we have reliable information that the issue of sanctions against him is being discussed. As you know, Mr. Ivanishvili is a French citizen, and therefore France is particularly interested when its citizens act against the interests of France and the West and contribute to the strengthening of Russian influence against the interests of European civilization," Bokuchava said.
In addition, she spoke about the "resistance platform" created around the fifth president, Salome Zurabishvili.
"Regarding Salome Zurabishvili's format, you know that after the March 31st protest, where there was a very high expectation for a specific statement from her, which, in my opinion, caused significant disappointment among the people, we decided that, based only on the necessity and importance of the issues, we would leave the possibility of cooperation situationally. However, we see that the necessity for this has not yet arisen. Nevertheless, we continue to cooperate with other political parties, especially on the foreign front, and on the issues concerning the positioning of Georgia’s democratic forces in the international arena under the name of Georgian will," Bokuchava stated.
