I think this is the moment when we should thank him for the work he has done for the country - I am sure that he, as a non-politician in this case, will play an important role in the further development of Georgia, - the Speaker of the Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, told journalists when responding to Irakli Gharibashvili's decision to leave politics.

According to Shalva Papuashvili, "at the time when the war in Ukraine began, there was direct pressure from the Biden administration to get involved in the escalation with Russia," and Irakli Gharibashvili took a tough, direct position, which was decisive in maintaining peace in Georgia.

“At the time when the war in Ukraine began, there was direct pressure from the Biden administration to involve us in an escalation with Russia. The former US ambassador went directly from cabinet to cabinet, including my cabinet, to force Georgia to escalate with Russia. Irakli Gharibashvili’s tough, direct position, his role in maintaining peace despite the direct pressure from the Biden administration, is decisive in this regard. I would like to thank him for withstanding this pressure. In addition, his participation was decisive for Georgia’s successful management of the pandemic. Let me remind you that in 2021, when Giorgi Gakharia resigned from his post at the behest of the former US ambassador in order to overthrow the government, Irakli Gharibashvili took over the leadership of the government and from that moment on, economic growth started in Georgia," Papuashvili noted, adding that he thanks Gharibashvili for his work for the country and wished him and his family success.

"I am confident that he, as a non-politician in this case, will play an important role in the further development of Georgia," Papuashvili noted.

In addition, when asked why Gharibashvili left in the face of the problems in the country, including at a time when the Georgian Dream party has not defeated the “deep state”, Papuashvili replied that the “deep state” is to be defeated by the Trump administration.

Irakli Gharibashvili spoke in detail about the motivation for his decision. As for defeating the “deep state”, it is to be defeated by the Trump administration. We certainly won’t be able to do that. President Trump has declared that his goal is to defeat the “deep state”, in which we wish him success,” Papuashvili said.

Meanwhile, when asked by a journalist whether Gharibashvili escaped potential sanctions when he is the only person in the leadership who has not been sanctioned, Papuashvili replied that he himself has not been sanctioned either.

“Why?! I have not been sanctioned either,” he noted.

In addition, in response to the relevant question, Papuashvili stated that the party congress will decide who will become the new chairman of the Georgian Dream.
