Our goal is to show the new US administration that we are fully prepared to start a new chapter in our strategic partnership - we are ready for a partnership that is not just empty words, as it was during the Biden administration, - Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili, said when responding to the meeting held at the US State Department with Georgian First Vice Prime Minister Levan Davitashvili.

According to Papuashvili, Georgia has repeatedly shown that it is the US's "most reliable partner" in the region.

“Our goal is to show the new US administration that we are fully prepared to start a new chapter in strategic partnership. A partnership that would not be empty words, like it was during the Biden administration, when they were talking sweet words to us, as if we were strategic partners, but in reality, Georgian democracy was being undermined by American funding. Exactly with the same fraudulent schemes that the Trump administration has not exposed. We propose to have a new chapter in strategic partnership. What can Georgia offer the US, I think we have shown over time. We were and remain the most reliable partner of the US in the region. Let them look back at the past, think about the future, think and let everyone analyze whether we are the most reliable partner of the US in the region,” Papuashvili said.

As for the question, “Is it possible to start a new page in strategic partnership by lifting sanctions?”, Papuashvili noted that “what is arbitrary and unjust should not exist in nature.”

“As for the so-called sanctions, they are a priori, unjust, arbitrary and contradict not only the understanding of equal relations between countries, but even the elementary understanding of human rights. Therefore, this is not a prerequisite, but a given fact that what is arbitrary and unjust should not exist in nature,” Papuashvili noted.

As for the candidacy of a new ambassador to the US, Papuashvili noted that “the [party] is not only discussing the candidate for ambassador, it has also named one and the procedures are underway. I cannot tell you the identity.”
