The Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia, Shalva Papuashvili, publishes a post on social networks regarding the Victory Day over Fascism and congratulates citizens on the victory.
According to him, 80 years ago, the allies won and Georgia won with them.
As Papuashvili notes, under the pretext of rethinking the past, the constant appeals about which date is correct, 9 or 8, what the name of Victory Day should be, a thousand similar nonsense are aimed at only one thing - not to understand the past, but to rewrite the past.
“Over the past 80 years, the celebration of May 9 has become our inseparable tradition, which in today's distorted life is a living reminder of who we were yesterday, where we stood, what we fought for, and who we are today.
Today, we see people who have made it their life's mission to diminish the history of Georgia, our past, and Victory Day.
Under the pretext of rethinking the past, the constant appeals about which date is correct, 9 or 8, what the name of Victory Day should be, whether it is possible to commemorate Stalin, and a thousand similar distortions and nonsense are aimed at only one thing - not to understand the past, but to rewrite the past, to arouse a sense of guilt for living in the Soviet Union, and to destroy national identity in such a way as to create fertile ground for the establishment of a pseudo-European and artificially constructed ideology under foreign influence.
People who are directly responsible for the creation of a truly anti-European, anti-democratic, criminal regime and the misery of the country, together with social media activists who carry this ideology, are trying to change the meaning of May 9.
May 9 is and will be the day of that great victory, to which Georgia has made its worthy contribution. This contribution, this sacrifice, and this heroism will not be forgotten and history will not be rewritten”, he said.
