Nika Melia: I believe Ivanishvili himself does not fully realize what severe consequences going all-in against the U.S. will bring - Regimes like this are always unexpectedly brought down — that fate will inevitably catch up with Ivanishvili, because that’s the path he’s on

"I don’t think they even fully understand themselves what severe consequences Ivanishvili’s all-in gamble with the U.S. will bring," — said Nika Melia, one of the leaders of the "Coalition for Change," in response to the open letter by Georgia’s Prime Minister, Irakli Kobakhidze, addressed to U.S. President Donald Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance.

According to Melia, Bidzina Ivanishvili knows very well that restoring relations with the U.S. from a clean slate requires holding new elections — but he is afraid of elections.

"I believe this unjust regime will fall very quickly — faster than we think. If there’s one thing I’m certain of, it’s that 'Georgian Dream' will never be defeated as a regime through a written-out plan. Regimes like this never fall that way. They collapse suddenly, unexpectedly, for everyone. And that fate will inevitably come for Ivanishvili. That’s the path he’s on.

'Georgian Dream' has already received an answer from the United States — starting a clean-slate relationship is only possible through new elections, not under conditions of usurped power. This was made clear both by the U.S. ambassador and other American officials. Ivanishvili knows very well what he needs to do to restart relations with the U.S. — it requires new elections. But he is afraid of those new elections," Melia stated.
