According to Salome Samadashvili, a member of the Lelo-Strong Georgia party, the temporary investigative commission established in the Georgian Parliament is an “instrument of political repression.”
As Samadashvili noted to journalists before the start of Badri Japaridze’s pre-trial hearing at the Tbilisi City Court, “the court will act according to whatever political order it receives.”
“I think society sees very well that this unconstitutional commission, which was established in an illegitimate parliament, is an ordinary instrument of political repression. Probably, everyone understands how absurd it is that Mamuka Khazaradze and Badri Japaridze were the first to be summoned to the so-called commission investigating the governance of the National Movement. This only shows that our political union, its leaders, are one of the main targets of the Russian regime’s political persecution and harassment today. Let’s see what Bidzina Ivanishvili’s prosecutor’s office demands. We know that the court is an absolutely controlled instrument. Therefore, they will act according to whatever political order they receive.
No matter what decision the regime makes today or in the coming days, our struggle will only be strengthened and in no case weakened until we achieve the release of all political prisoners in the country and new parliamentary elections,” Samadashvili said.
In addition, Samadashvili also spoke about the possible reset of relations between the West and the Georgian government, explaining that “this government has no potential, no chance to reset relations.”
“Despite the fact that the regime is trying to deceive the public through its own propaganda channels, for example: according to the alphabet, the French President was supposed to sit next to Kobakhidze, but [they made it sound like] there was some kind of meeting.
We saw how the meeting in Tirana ended, it ended so that we have not heard any statement from the European side that indicates that there is any potential for resetting relations. The MEGOBARI Act is moving forward at full speed and will become a law in the near future. Therefore, this government has no potential, no chance to reset relations. If additional political prisoners appear in the country, in addition to the 50 people who are there today, this will lead the Bidzina Ivanishvili regime into an even greater impasse,” Samadashvili noted.
