In addition to the event organized by the government, today, May 26, a series of events and marches will take place in Tbilisi, organized by the fifth president, Salome Zurabishvili, opposition parties, and civil society.
According to the “National Committee of May 26,” the main event under the title “Georgia, I Will Protect You Again” will begin at 15:00 on Rustaveli Avenue.
Furthermore, several marches will be held from various locations throughout the day.
Specifically, according to information shared by organizers on social media, various marches will begin from different locations at 16:00, and at 19:00, the fifth president of Georgia will address the gathered crowd on Rustaveli Avenue. The main event area will extend from the Rustaveli Theater to the Palace of Student and Youth.
Also, on May 26 at 16:00, a march of cultural sector representatives will start from the Philharmonic. They will present an “Artistic Manifesto” in a unified march from the Philharmonic to Parliament.
At 20:00, in front of the First Gymnasium on Rustaveli Avenue, students from movements of ten different universities will share their plans in honor of Georgia’s Independence Day. From 17:00, an exhibition space will be open.
“On May 26, 1918, Georgia declared independence and established the Democratic Republic. Since 1991, Georgia, liberated from the USSR, has once again chosen May 26 as Independence Day. May 26 is a symbol of freedom and independence for our homeland.
To celebrate Georgia’s independence, Rustaveli Avenue will host the tireless society that has always fought for Georgia’s freedom. Events dedicated to our past, present, and future will be held from the morning.
Our independence is once again under attack by the Russian Empire, which destroyed the First Republic and erased the history of heroes who fought for freedom. Today, the Russian puppet government of Ivanishvili is also trying to devalue the work of Georgia’s heroes and the idea of freedom, to neutralize Georgia, isolate it, and leave it alone in front of Russia.
But the Georgian people continue the struggle with steadfastness and dedication to preserve freedom and independence.
On May 26, the national memory of Georgia will come alive on Rustaveli Avenue, and, following in the footsteps of our heroic ancestors, the voices of those who are defending their homeland today through daily resistance will be heard loudly on Rustaveli Avenue, from prisons, from exile, from international platforms, and from every possible place where resistance lives!
And on the 180th day of continuous protest,
The united Georgian society will once again firmly show both enemies and friends:
That we have defended and will always defend Georgia!
We defended and will defend again!
Until the very end!” reads the information shared by the organizers on social media.
