After President Trump’s congratulations, this statement from [the embassy] is somewhat strange, said Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili regarding a statement issued by the U.S. Embassy, which noted that Bidzina Ivanishvili, honorary chairman of "Georgian Dream," refused to meet with U.S. Ambassador to Georgia Robin Dunnigan.
As Papuashvili noted, the purpose of this statement is unclear to him.
“The congratulatory letter sent by President Trump to Georgia’s President Mikheil Kavelashvili is welcome, and the content of this congratulation is particularly significant. It emphasized the desire to cooperate with the Georgian government and strengthen collaboration in various fields, including the economic sphere. This is exactly what we have been talking about, and I think it’s a good signal.
As for the embassy’s post today on Facebook, after President Trump’s congratulations, this statement is somewhat strange. As they themselves mention, it’s about an event from a few days ago, yet they specifically released this statement the day after Trump’s congratulations. To be honest, I don’t know what the purpose of this statement was.
The goals declared by President Trump align fully with our vision, starting with his aim to defeat the ‘deep state’ in the U.S. This is his primary objective, which he has set as his main task and a measure of his success. We are merely his supporters in this. We know that the weaker the ‘deep state’ becomes, the stronger the cooperation between Georgia and the U.S. will be. The weakening of the ‘deep state’ will be directly proportional to the improvement of Georgia-U.S. relations, and I believe President Trump’s congratulation to President Kavelashvili on Independence Day is one of the good signals of this,” Papuashvili stated.
For reference, according to the U.S. Embassy, Bidzina Ivanishvili, honorary chairman of "Georgian Dream," refused to meet with U.S. Ambassador to Georgia Robin Dunnigan. The corresponding statement was published today on the embassy’s Facebook page.
