The creation of Russian military capabilities in Ochamchire makes our territory a potential target in the event of an attack - the Georgian government has supported all the steps that Russia is taking towards the annexation of our occupied territories, - this is how Salome Samadashvili, one of the leaders of Lelo-Strong Georgia, assesses the plan to open a material and technical base for the Russian Black Sea Fleet in occupied Ochamchire.
According to Salome Samadashvili, this creates completely new security challenges for the Anaklia port.
“We have been talking for a long time about the threat that exists in Ochamchire in terms of Russia’s strengthening and creating its own military capabilities. This is a very serious challenge for both the security and economic future of our country. The creation of appropriate Russian military capabilities in Ochamchire potentially makes our territory a target in the event of an attack, and, of course, completely new security challenges are created for such a prospect as the Anaklia port. The fact is that the Georgian government has not only failed to prevent Russia, but has facilitated all the steps that Russia is taking towards the annexation of our occupied territories, including the creation and strengthening of military infrastructure. While Bidzina Ivanishvili is deceiving people that his government is maintaining peace with Russia, Russia is actually carrying out new successful operations towards the conquest of our state in hidden ways.
Ochamchire, about which the State Security Service assured us that there is no such threat, is a good example of this because in reality the State Security Service is busy persecuting political opponents, not taking care of the security of our country, which is its mandate,” Samadashvili said.
The so-called President of occupied Abkhazia, Badra Gunba, has announced that a material and technical base will be opened in the Ochamchire district of Abkhazia for the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Navy.
“The creation of a [Russian] military and naval base as such is not planned, but the opening of a material and technical base for the Black Sea Fleet is planned in the Ochamchire district,” Gunba noted.
According to him, within the framework of this project, it is planned to continue strengthening cooperation between the “two countries,” in particular through the national defense ministries.
