Gorbachev’s fellow fighter Rasa Juknevičienė now speaks to us in English with a Russian accent, wagging her finger and warning that if we don’t behave the way the “center” wants, we will be punished. Unfortunately, this is how absurd Euro-bureaucracy has become, – said the Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili.

According to him, some political groups are willing to do anything just to change the government and bring puppets to power.

“The alternative to ‘Georgian Dream’ is a political group that promises the Georgian people it will act according to external instructions. They were offering the Georgian people a government that would do whatever Rasa Juknevičienė tells them to. She says: stand on one leg – and they will. She says: impose sanctions on Russia – and they will impose sanctions and destroy our country’s economy. They even told us to send volunteers to the war when no other country did. These were the kinds of demands. And this is the real criticism of ‘Georgian Dream’ – that it doesn’t follow external orders. So the real problem lies there.

Throughout this whole story, the ones who have strayed from European values are in fact in Brussels. Brussels must return to the true European values that were embedded when the union was created. The behavior we’re seeing toward the Georgian people is nowhere close to European values.

At the same time, investigative committee hearings are being held here where we recall the tragedies that happened during the time when Rasa Juknevičienė was a minister in Lithuania. Has anyone ever heard a single critical word from her? Today, when the Baltic governments are quick to comment on Georgia’s internal politics – did they say a single word back then? No. In reality, they were complicit in the entire tragedy, because they supported Mikheil Saakashvili’s regime at the time, and now they want to get him out of prison. This is the value crisis we’re witnessing in the European Parliament.
