Journalists, opposition members, and activists claim they are being summoned to court over social media posts related to “Georgian Dream” MPs – the Ministry of Internal Affairs is conducting administrative proceedings on the grounds of insulting a political official

Civil activists, TV presenters, journalists, and opposition politicians claim they are being summoned to court for insulting Georgian Dream MPs on social media.

According to TV presenter Nanuka Zhorzholiani, those summoned to court include her daughter, activist Mariam Geguchadze; TV presenter Vakho Sanaia; TV presenter Vika Bukia; activist Ana Subeliani; TV presenter Eka Mishveladze; opposition politicians Elene Khoshtaria and Aleko Elisashvili; founder of “Sapari” Baia Pataraia; former president of the National Bank Giorgi Kadagidze; and journalist Dea Mamiseishvili.

Recently, Tamar Chergoleishvili, one of the leaders of the “Federalists,” published a video showing that she received a phone call from the court summoning her due to alleged insults directed at Mamuka Mdinaradze and Tea Tsulukiani.

Chergoleishvili says she does not intend to appear in court until she receives an official document explaining the reasons for the summons.

Journalist Dea Mamiseishvili stated that she was summoned for allegedly insulting the majority leader, Mamuka Mdinaradze.

"Tomorrow I’m being summoned to court because I hurt Mamuka’s feelings. Mamuka Mdinaradze felt insulted, and the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the court felt it was necessary to act," Mamiseishvili wrote, adding that she is being sued over a post from February 25.

TV presenter Eka Mishveladze also explained that no one from the court has contacted her, but her name appears on the official court website, and a hearing is scheduled.

“People, the court’s website says there’s a hearing for Ekaterine Mishveladze tomorrow at 16:00. But no one has called me, and I haven’t received any notification! I wonder if it’s me or some other Ekaterine Mishveladze?” wrote the TV presenter.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs stated that administrative proceedings have been launched in connection with the verbal insult and defamation of a political official.

Specifically, the administrative case was opened based on a complaint submitted on June 6, 2025, by the chairman of the “Georgian Dream” parliamentary faction. The Ministry of Internal Affairs initiated the proceedings under Article 173(16) of Georgia’s Administrative Offenses Code.

This article refers to verbal insult, swearing, offensive confrontation, and/or other degrading actions against a Georgian state or political official in connection with the performance of their official duties or activities.

The case materials were submitted today to Tbilisi City Court.
