The court found Giorgi Vashadze, the leader of the Strategy Builder party, guilty of failing to comply with the request of the temporary investigative commission of the Parliament.
By the decision of Judge Nino Galustashvili, he was sentenced to 7 months in prison. In addition, he was banned from holding office for 2 years.
Giorgi Vashadze did not attend the pronouncement of the judgement. Despite the lawyer’s request that the judge postpone the hearing until the stage of the defendant’s final statement, Galustashvili pronounced the judgement anyway.
Giorgi Vashadze was waiting for the judgement at the party office with his teammates.
For information, Giorgi Vashadze was summoned to give an explanation before the temporary investigative commission of the Parliament of Georgia, where he did not appear. In this regard, he was charged under Article 349 of the Criminal Code, which refers to “failure to comply with the request of the Temporary Investigative Commission of the Parliament of Georgia.” This is punishable by a fine, or imprisonment for a term of up to one year, or deprivation of the right to hold a position or engage in activity for a term of up to three years.
Giorgi Vashadze was granted bail of 50,000 GEL as a preventive measure, which he paid within the time limit established by law.
