"Georgian Dream" must make up its mind – what is Brussels demanding: the marriage of Georgian men or their slaughter in war? First, they should figure that out, and then I will try to respond — because they change their narrative every day," – said one of the leaders of the United National Movement, Levan Sanikidze, in a statement to journalists.­

According to him, the European Parliament, in its latest message, called on Georgian Dream to hold fair, early, and democratic elections.

"If there is anyone who has nothing to do with the European Union, it's Georgian Dream. The issue is very clear — if Georgian Dream is not in control of Georgia’s government, our path to Europe is open. Until they hold onto power through a constitutional coup, Georgia has no chance of taking the European path.

We also saw the latest message from the European Parliament, in which Georgian Dream was urged to hold fair, early, and democratic elections. Otherwise, the Georgian state will be considered governed by an organization that is not recognized by the European Parliament as a legitimate government.

When you want to join a certain family, to which we belong civilizationally — right? I believe Shota Rustaveli and William Shakespeare are part of the same civilization. I also believe that the Gelati and Bagrati Cathedrals, as well as the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, belong to the same civilization. When you return to this civilization after the Soviet tragedy, it becomes important to follow the rules that exist. For example: don’t falsify elections, and protect human rights. If you do not betray these principles, you become a full-fledged member of this civilization. Georgian Dream doesn’t care about any of that — and that’s the whole point. So, the issue is simple: either our government is a part of the European civilization, or it is not,” – Sanikidze said.

In addition, Sanikidze commented on a statement made by the Speaker of Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, regarding Mikheil Saakashvili. According to Sanikidze, Georgian Dream has conducted no investigation into Saakashvili's claims about being poisoned, nor have they disproven his allegations.

“Those medical conclusions haven’t disappeared. Georgian Dream has conducted no investigation into the statements Mikheil Saakashvili made regarding his poisoning. They have not and cannot disprove the opposite. Therefore, naturally, our European partners rely on the highly qualified medical assessments that foreign experts have provided before,” – Sanikidze noted.

For context: The Speaker of Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, stated: “When someone looks for even a grain of justice in Brussels’ criticisms of Georgia, let’s not forget — this is the same Brussels that invented Saakashvili’s dementia and tried to free him from prison with demarches, until the Strasbourg court finally put an end to that farce.”
