This confrontation has nothing to do with state interests. Unfortunately, this is not a fight against corruption, but a bandit confrontation, - the leader of the Freedom Square, Levan Tsutskiridze, said when speaking about the former high-ranking officials of the Ministry of Defense, who were charged with abusing their official position and aiding in the embezzlement of a large amount of money belonging to the Ministry of Defense.
As he noted on PalitraNews, even the supporters of the Georgian Dream will not believe that the party suddenly realized the existence of corruption after 12 years.
"Of course, this is not a fight against corruption. Perhaps even the supporters of the Georgian Dream themselves do not believe that what is happening now is happening because after 12 years in power, the Georgian Dream, specifically Bidzina Ivanishvili or Irakli Kobakhidze, discovered corruption somewhere and they want to organize a new, ruthless fight. No one should deceive themselves, this is an internal confrontation within this political grouping - because of money and power. This confrontation has nothing to do with state interests. Unfortunately, this is not a fight against corruption, but a bandit confrontation.
This party has had everything in its hands for 12 years. They have a one-party system, the whole country is in their hands, and who would believe that they discovered corruption today? No, they did not discover corruption today. Today, the internal conflict has intensified because they have taken the wrong path,” Tsutskiridze said.
In addition, he spoke about the local self-government elections. According to him, the Georgian Dream has neither domestic nor foreign legitimacy, therefore, according to him, no candidate can change reality.
“No matter what decision they make, no matter who they nominate, they cannot change the reality that the Georgian Dream faces today. If Bidzina Ivanishvili nominates a horse as a candidate and says - “This will be my representative,” they would write whatever number they want. These elections will not be a competition, so popularity does not matter much, other issues matter more. The fact that the Georgian Dream has neither domestic nor foreign legitimacy cannot be changed by any candidate," Tsutskiridze said.
As Tsutskiridze noted, the Georgian Dream will have to make important political decisions in the face of the current crisis in the country. He is confident that new parliamentary elections will be called and those detained during the protests will be released.
"I am confident that the Georgian Dream will have to call new elections, release political prisoners, and cede power. But this will not happen as a result of some farce called local elections, but as a result of public resistance," Tsutskiridze said.
