Georgia is a country of heroes, no one can bring us to our knees - we have nothing to apologize to anyone! - Paata Burchuladze, the leader of the Rustaveli Avenue movement, told journalists at the Mukhatgverdi Brothers Cemetery.
Burchuladze paid tribute to the memory of those who died in the August 2008 war and noted that no one can ever belittle Georgia's heroes.
"We, the representatives of the Rustaveli Avenue movement, came to the Mukhatgverdi Brothers Cemetery. We commemorated the souls of our heroes. One thing we want to say once again is that Georgia is a country of heroes. No one can bring us to our knees. We will always fight for our freedom. We have nothing to apologize to anyone! Our heroes, both Antsukhelidze and the rest, will always be heroes. No one can ever belittle them. We are here to pay our tribute and bow our heads before them once again,” Burchuladze said.
When asked why Mikheil Saakashvili wrote August 8 as the date of the start of the war in his decree, Burchuladze noted that he did not come to the Mukhatgverdi Brothers’ Cemetery to judge anyone.
“I’ll tell you why I am here today, I am not going to judge anyone. One thing I know is that Georgia is a country of heroes and will always be a country of heroes. No government, be it Ivanishvili’s or anyone else’s, can change that. This is why these people are heroes and we are here,” Burchuladze said.
