With this step, Ivanishvili admitted today that he is afraid of the Georgian diaspora! There is immense power among Georgians living abroad, – writes the leader of “Lelo – For a Strong Georgia,” Mamuka Khazaradze, on social media regarding the new legislative initiative.
According to Khazaradze, the decision by “Georgian Dream” to deprive emigrants of the right to vote is the removal of their constitutional right.
“Step by step, one man who is clinging to power is taking everything away from us – everything that is precious, everything that belongs to us and is the fundamental right of our citizens!
This will continue until we have an adequate response to the anti-state steps of ‘Georgian Dream.’
With this step, Ivanishvili admitted today that he is afraid of the Georgian diaspora! There is tremendous power among Georgians abroad.
Your struggle is visible and Ivanishvili fears you – he fears your participation in elections.
Thank you for what you are doing, and I am certain that we are all in this fight together – both emigrants and those living in Georgia. The struggle will continue to the end – by all legal means!” – writes Mamuka Khazaradze.
For reference, “Georgian Dream” is working on a new “Electoral Code.” As stated today at a briefing by the Chairman of Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, the code will be fully revised, and one of the amendments will allow citizens to vote in parliamentary elections only within the territory of Georgia, similar to local self-government elections.
