The main Christmas tree of Tbilisi has been solemnly lit in the First Republic Square. Today, all districts of the capital have also been illuminated with New Year's illuminations.
The Mayor of the capital Kakha Kaladze attended the Christmas tree lighting ceremony together with Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze and the Chairman of the Parliament Shalva Papuashvili.
The Mayor of Tbilisi addressed the public gathered at the event, congratulated them on the upcoming Christmas and New Year and wished them peace.
“The anticipation of the New Year fills our beautiful capital with goodness. Today the main Christmas tree will be lit, and from today the "New Year Village" will open, which is always associated with special memories and emotions. I am sure that our capital will be special this year too. When lighting the Christmas tree, people always think about their wishes. Of course, there are many wishes, but there is one special one - peace, because peace brings goodness, development, progress and prosperity. May peace reign throughout Georgia, in the world, and may our beautiful Tbilisi and Georgia be filled with goodness. I wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year in advance. I wish you a Happy New Year," - said Kakha Kaladze.
The festive event was attended by representatives of the Tbilisi City Hall Gymnastics Development Sports Center, Meko Kvachantiradze Ballet Studio and Dato Potskhishvili Ensemble "Metekhi", as well as Davit Evgenidze and "Ranina"; actors - Keti Khitiri and Ivane Yantbelidze; presenters - Levan Khurtsia and Manika Asatiani.
The concept of the event, directed by Nikoloz Heine-Shvelidze, was built on the capital's New Year's slogan - "A City Full of Goodness".
The ceremony was also attended by members of the Cabinet of Ministers, Deputies of the Mayor of Tbilisi, representatives of the Parliament and the City Council.
Today, the “New Year Village” was also opened on the First Republic Square, where various performances will be held until January 7. An ice rink, an amusement park, a New Year's City Train and Santa's House were located on the same territory.
The “New Year Village” will be closed with a festive event on January 7, on Christmas Day, while the ice rink and the main Christmas tree of the capital will be located on the First Republic Square until January 14.
