It is difficult when a high-ranking official is exposed and accused of a serious crime - everyone who now holds a high position should be careful, they should be aware that in case of any crime, the appropriate measures provided for by law will be taken against them with all severity, - Archil Gorduladze, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Legal Issues, said when speaking about the detention of the former head of the State Security Service, Grigol Liluashvili.
According to him, Liluashvili's detention "underlines that positions do not matter to the Georgian Dream government."
“A person who commits a crime will appear before the court, will be able to defend his positions, and the measures provided for by law will be taken against him in the same way as against any citizen of Georgia.
A few years ago, when the honorary chairman of the party, Bidzina Ivanishvili, returned to active politics, one of his first statements was about corruption issues, and one of the main issues of the Prime Minister, Irakli Kobakhidze, which he emphasized in the parliament, was the fight against corruption. Appropriate measures are taken by law enforcement agencies against those who commit or have committed corruption crimes. On the other hand, the prevention of such crimes is important, on which a number of decisions have been made personally by Irakli Kobakhidze,” said Archil Gorduladze.
When asked whether it was a political mistake of the team to defend Grigol Liluashvili when a number of opposition politicians were talking about his alleged crimes, Gorduladze replied that they have a stated goal that Georgia should be among the top three countries in terms of the least corruption and that corruption is a challenge for all countries.
“Corruption is a challenge for all countries, the main thing is the methods of struggle that, on the one hand, contribute to the prevention of corruption crimes and, on the other hand, if they are detected, an appropriate response is made. Everyone who now holds a high position must be careful, they must be aware that in the event of any crime, the appropriate measures provided for by law will be taken against them with all severity,” Gorduladze noted.
For information, Grigol Liluashvili, the former head of the State Security Service, who came to the prosecutor's office for questioning, was arrested yesterday. He is charged under Article 338, Part 2, Subparagraph “c” and Part 3, Subparagraph “e” of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which involves taking a bribe in a particularly large amount by a group by prior agreement and provides for a sentence of 11 to 15 years of imprisonment.
